Applying two-component adhesive by mixing components in-line

Existing issues

Cable was secured to an electrical part with one-component adhesive, but this took a significant amount of time to harden, reducing work efficiency.
For this reason, the customer hoped to switch over to a two-component adhesive, which has a shorter hardening time, but feeding this mixture to the applicator had the following issues:

  • Because the mixture hardens within the equipment, it must be disassembled and cleaned frequently.
  • Because the mixture needs to be prepared in larger than necessary amounts, some of the expensive adhesive is wasted.

The customer considered introducing equipment that mixes the adhesive as it is applied, but the alternate system had the following issues:

  • Lack of support high-viscosity adhesives.
  • Poor adjustment of application volume and mixing ratio.


The customer adopted a combination of two Heishin Dispenser ND units, which offers easy flow rate adjustment and supports high-viscosity fluids, and a static mixer.

Benefits from the improvement

  • Discharge volume is adjustable simply by controlling the rotational speed of the servo motor, ensuring just the right amount of adhesive is applied and minimizing wasted materials.
  • Mixing ratio is easy to set due to the individualized control of discharge volumes for the base compound and the curing agent.
  • Even when the application amount needs to be changed for different work pieces, discharge volume can be adjusted without altering the mixing ratio, which shortens set-up time.
  • Good metering performance is ensured for high-viscosity fluids, which offers good mixing accuracy and hence better quality.
  • Cleaning time is minimized due to the small number of parts that come into contact with the mixed adhesive.
  • By making continuous in-line mixing possible, batch stirring becomes unnecessary.
